Starfield has been a permanent resident of the rumour mill for too long, and it was like a massive weight was lifted off the entire gaming community’s shoulders when Bethesda finally announced it at their E3 press conference a few days back. One thing Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howare made perfectly clear during the reveal, though, is that the game’s not close to launch.

However, later, Howard spoke with GameSpot about the game, and gave some updates on how its development is going, what kinds of design philosophies the studio is following for its development, and just when fans can expect to see more of the upcoming RPG. As per Howard, some parts of the game are very much in a playable state, and what Bethesda do have on their hands so far “looks awesome”, according to him, but fans are probably going to have to wait for a long time to see more of it (or any of it, actually).

“There are sections of it that are very playable,” Howard said when asked how far along in development Starfield is. “We mess around for a while, and then we know, ‘this is the game that we’re making’. And we know that now. We know the game that we’re making. There are some specific design challenges that we know we’ll have to deal with, because we’re doing some new things.”

“There are sections of it you can play,” he continued. “One of the reasons we decided to announce it because it’s looking awesome. We’re really confident, like- this is the game we’re definitely doing, we have runway in front of us, we know it’s happening.” However, when Howard was asked if the fans can expect to see or hear more of the game anytime soon, he said, “Everyone should be very, very patient.”

That makes sense, I guess. At their conference, Bethesda announced that Starfield is going to be a next generation game, which means it’s not going to be out for at least another two or three years. There probably isn’t going to be a substantial update on the game any time soon in the foreseeable future. Either way, stick with GamingBolt, and we’ll keep bringing you new news that comes our way.
