Gearbox Software have announced via their official Twitter account that the upcoming looter shooter sequel, Borderlands 3, has officially wrapped up development, with more than a month left still till the highly anticipated sequel launches. This means the game’s been sent out to get pressed on discs, though judging by how things go now, the developer will likely continue to work on hashing out bugs and improving things here and there, which we should expect to see as a day one patch for the game.

Borderlands 3 is going to be the first game in the series in a while- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel came out in 2014, and if we were to look at the last mainline release in the series, we’d have to go all the way back to 2012 for Borderlands 2. Gearbox Software have spoken about how they wanted to move away from the franchise for a few years to avoid fatigue, and how that time away helped them come back refreshed and re-energized for Borderlands 3– we’ll be seeing the fruits of their labour soon.

Borderlands 3 is promising to go bigger and better in every way, with more variety in weapons, improvements made to the combat, expanded social and co-op functions, a nifty pinging system for co-op play, a continued emphasis on narrative, and more. Gearbox says the game’s main story by itself will take players 30-35 hours to finish– so there’s going to be plenty of meat on those bones, too.

Borderlands 3 is due out on September 13 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In November, the game will launch alongside Google’s Stadia as well. At launch, Gearbox Software’s title won’t be supporting cross-platform play.
