Borderlands 3 has been the centre of attention ever since its reveal, and rightly so- the game’s been highly anticipated for a god few years, and its announcement was a long time coming. Now, details have started coming in thick and fast about various aspects of Gearbox’s upcoming looter shooter, and the newest bit of information comes in details changes being made to weapons in the game.

The details come to us via the game’s own website, where developers Gearbox Software have detailed how weapons will work in the game, and the changes being made to said system. Guns and weapons in the game will, of course, be sorted by the brands and corporations that manufacture them, and these categorizations will define how each of them function. What’s new here, though, is the stuff being added on to each of the brand’s identities.

Dahl weapons will allow players to swap between alternate fire modes; Torgue weapons allow you to switch between regular projectile rounds and sticky rounds, with the latter doing extra damage if multiple of them detonate on the same target; Cov weapons will allow for uninterrupted flurries of attack with infinite ammo, which will occasionally be hampered by the weapons becoming overheated; Hyperion weapons allow you to take cover behind the in-built shield in the guns while you aim down their sights.

Then there’s Vladof weapons, which can be equipped with attachments such as tasers, rocket tubes, and additional gun barrels; Jakobs weapons fire high-damage bullets that ricochet from one target to the next; Atlas weapons allow you to first hit your enemies with tracker tags, and then fire barrages of bullets at them that can literally track them down; Tediore weapons have a strange way of being reloaded, with you needing to throw them at enemies as grenades (they explode, of course), while a fully loaded weapon “digistructs” in your hands; and finally, there’s Maliwan weapons, which allow you to toggle between two elements and charge your attacks.

Weapon build and variety is supremely important in any loot shooter, and it definitely looks like Borderlands 3 has that covered. Recently, the game’s season pass and special editions were announced. Meanwhile, it might also support cross-play co-op on Xbox One. Borderlands 3 launches on September 13 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, where it’ll be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for six months.
