Borderlands 3 Pre-Load Not Available on Epic Games Store

PC players won't be able to download the title before launch.

Gearbox’s Borderlands 3 is about one month away from release, and the information continues to roll in. The developer recently released interactive skill trees to allow players to decide and share their builds before launch. It’s even promised more details on its post-launch DLC plans at Gamescom and PAX West.

However, it seems that the title will not have one key feature before launch – at least, on PC. Players won’t be able to pre-load the title on the Epic Games Store, which it’s exclusive to until April 2020. As per Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney on Twitter, “We won’t have support for preloading in the Borderlands release timeframe.”

What this means is that players with lower broadband speeds won’t be able to effectively download the game and play it at launch. It’s not the end of the world, but considering the criticism that the Epic Games Store has attracted, especially when it’s missing core features like gifting, this certainly doesn’t help. If nothing else, at least the game is out on a Friday, so players will have the weekend to (hopefully) enjoy it.

Borderlands 3 releases on September 13th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Stay tuned for more information on the game coming at Gamescom, which runs from August 20th to 24th.
