Borderlands 3 Director on Switch Port: “Never Say Never”

Don't lose hope yet, Switch owners.

Collectively, we as an audience have demanded Switch ports for every game in existence, and it’s mostly worked out. Re-releases of older titles on the Switch are a dime a dozen, but one series that’s been noticeably missing from Switch’s veritable catalog of games is Borderlands. Gearbox Software’s looter shooter series recently re-entered the zeitgeist with Borderlands 3so it goes without saying that questions of a Switch release for the game have been plentiful- but what do the developers themselves have to say about it?

Well, it could happen. Someday. Maybe. Recently, on a livestream (which you can view below) while speaking with host Greg Miller, game director Paul Sage got to talking about a possible Switch release for Borderlands 3, and though he did not give a definitive answer one way or the other, he did leave the door open for the game releasing on Nintendo’s platform down the line, saying, “Never say never.” Back in April of this year, Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford also said that he “would love to see” Borderlands on the Switch. Now let’s hope it actually happens sooner rather than late.

Borderlands 3 recently launched for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will be releasing alongside Stadia in November. The game’s been performing pretty well since launch, topping UK sales charts on its debut and doubling the lifetime peak concurrent players count of Borderlands 2 on the day of release itself.
